Providing a foundation for life-saving work

Volunteers are the foundation of the Red Cross - and we actively encourage and develop this inspiring volunteer spirit. None of our programs could be carried out without our volunteer base, and their collective efforts have contributed to an improved quality of life in our community.

Consider any one of the following volunteer opportunities:

Emergency Services

We are currently looking for "a few good men and women" to serve as Disaster Volunteers. Husband and wife teams are encouraged to participate together. If you are interested in this unique and rewarding experience, there are three easy steps that lead you into American Red Cross Disaster Services:

  • 1st Step: Take 2 classes ("Intro to Disaster" and "You're in Good Company")
These two classes total approximately 3 hours, and consist of book, video and instructor training. This training is provided at YOUR CONVENIENCE and at NO COST.

Company Leaders: Please note that if you have a minimum of 20 employees/individuals signing up for the Red Cross Disaster Training, our Emergency Services Director will come to your place of employment to provide this training at your convenience.

  • 2nd Step: Determine your area of interest
Would you like to "specialize" in Feeding, Family Services (casework) or Disaster Assessment? Or perhaps you want to "do it all" and serve on the Disaster Action Team (DAT). You should be fully equipped to make this decision after completing Step One. If you choose to become a DAT member, you will need to take four additional courses (again provided at no cost to you).
  • 3rd Step: On-Site Training
You sign up for one week with a current DAT coordinator, and must go out on a minimum of four cases. This provides the invaluable training you need to become qualified to go out on your own. At this point the Red Cross would also provide you with First Aid/CPR training free of charge.

Everyone DAT member is on-call for one week at a time - primarily from the hours of 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. You pick the week!

If this becomes a volunteer opportunity that truly inspires you to make a difference (and we're certain it will), you can become a volunteer through the National Red Cross office and go out to help with disaster stricken areas on a national scale.
